To those still following me


I've just graduated from college, studying graphic design. Now I have to go look for work but at the same time I did not really find graphic design to be what I wanted. I have not really been posting much art any more but that is also because graphic design has been eating me up--with things that don't really make sense to put up.

Recently I have been working with Start Up Games, an indie video game studio in the UK that just started up, no pun intended (or actually it is a really big pun). This is still a uncertainty and I do hope it works out but it still doesn't rule out my need to find a day job.

I am also working on an activity with friends, we will be painting random things everyday for an hour--these random things could cover any topic, technique, and a challenge with a maximum of one hour per piece per day. I probably won't be posting much of these on deviant art any more.

Browsing through Kotaku I noticed this weird article. Similar the the recent case of Worlds.com suing MMO companies because they created virtual worlds where users can interact this case is also as disgusting.

Apparently for around 30 years there has been a company called Edge Games which claims to have made around 170 games during its time. That number is highly disputable and nobody seems to have any evidence.

The company's founder, Tim Langdell, a board member of the IGDA (Independent Game Developer's Association) has claimed creative ownership to many titles of games, movies, magazines and whatever has the word "Edge". He has apparently put a trademark on the word and ever since has been the source of his bread and butter.

The most recent stunt was up on his company's website. His company announced that is it producing a new (cough, first) game called "Mirrors". Its logo in bold red text is positioned on his company's website above their company logo, the word "Edge" in bold red letters. [link] Does that not vaguely resemble something.

This story however is what most columnists have put up on the issue. Mr. Langdell of course denies all this.

In my opinion this is stupid. Nobody should be allowed to make trademarks on any single word in any language. If what these articles say is true that man should be removed from the IGDA board and is a disgrace to the game development industry and the human species.

EA should sue no matter how ridiculous this is. The sooner everyone knows about the sooner everyone can put an end to it.
